Alia Atkinson sets new Short Course Breaststroke World Record

Jamaica swimming sensation Alia Atkinson have once again crossed another milestone in her illustrious career by becoming one of only 3 women to dip below 29 seconds in the 50m short course breast stroke.

At the Tokyo leg of the FINA World Cup Tour earlier today, Atkinson set a new record of 28.64 seconds clocking. A total of 16 hundredths was shaved off of the previous mark of 28.80 set by Jessica Hardy in Berlin in 2009.

A t the 2014 Short Course World Championships in Doha, Atkinson won the 100-metre breaststroke equalling the record set by Rūta Meilutytė in 2013, to become the first black woman to ever win a world swimming title.
