Argentina’s dream of winning the World Cup in the backyard of neighbours Brazil lives on after they beat Holland in a penalty shoot-out to reach the final.

Goalkeeper Sergio Romero saved brilliantly from Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder to take Argentina through following 120 turgid minutes in Sao Paulo.

The South Americans converted all of their penalties and will now play Germany in Sunday’s Maracana final.
