From the moment the “Summer Sixteen” tour dates were unveiled, Drake had tonight’s show marked on his calendar. Tonight was the first time Drake performed in Philly since he entered into a beef with the city’s biggest rapper, Meek Mill. On Friday night (Aug. 19), at the prior S’16 show in D.C., Drake modified a few lyrics when performing “Back to Back,” the more famous of his two Meek disses, and rapped, “That pussy still ain’t did shit about the other one,” of course implicating Meek as “that pussy.” While at the Wells Fargo Center tonight, Drake didn’t seem concerned about being on his enemy’s home turf. In fact, he made a special effort to take plenty of shots at Meek while in the MMG rapper’s hometown.
He performed “Back to Back” again, and though that was bold enough, he addressed Meek directly after dropping the diss record. “And just remember, when you watch that video over and over tonight,” said Drake, “It’s not about your city. I love your city. You did that shit to your motherfuckin’ self, boy.”
He also added some new “Back to Back” lyrics in order to honor the occasion. “I did another one, I did another one,” he raps, before swapping in a new line: “I even did this shit in Philly, man I’ll never run.”
