Hector, who featured in Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Austria and the USA, is surplus to this term’s plans under new coach Antonio Conte. And Hector has become the 21st senior player shipped out by Chelsea this season in order to gain more top-flight experience. He had been expected to be included in Chelsea’s squad for their opening match of the new campaign, when West Ham United are the visitors to Stamford Bridge in the London derby.
But instead he was sent on Saturday for a medical with the German club with Chelsea announcing his loan move today (Sunday August 14).
Hector has yet to feature in a competitive game for Chelsea, having been signed in a shock £4m deadline day transfer from English Championship side Reading last season and immediately being loaned back.
He kicked off his career as a trainee in 2009 with Reading, but was endlessly loaned out to various clubs – including non-league outfits and top tier Scottish side Aberdeen – before he established himself at Reading where he made 94 appearances.
And now his focus turns to Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt, who had a season to forget last term with their defence shipping in goals to finish 16th but avoid relegation.
London-born Hector made his debut for the Reggae Boyz at the 2015 Copa America in Chile, and his solid play has resulted in him featuring for his adopted nation ever since.
