Follow Di Arrow, the popular Dancehall stage show which normally takes place each February in St. Mary, will not take place this year.
Annually held at James Bond Beach on Jamaica’s North Coast, Follow Di Arrow has featured several of Dancehall biggest names. However, last year’s event ended in an unsavory fashion after Bounty Killer made comments that were seemingly aimed at his former protégé turned rival, Vybz Kartel. Patrons then hurled bottles at the self-professed ‘Grung Gaad’ in protest; causing Bounty Killer to run for cover.
When Kartel appeared on stage minutes later, he was met with glass bottles before even addressing the crowd, prompting him to run for safety. Gunshots were also fired in protest, causing the crowd to go into a frenzy.
Considering all those factors, Follow Di Arrow promoter, Dexton Ennis, intimated during a radio interview on Tuesday that the show would not take place this year.
“I was very indecisive about keeping the show based on what happened last year. However, a number of people keep cussing and calling and when I decided she ‘Alright, I’ll give it a thought,’ it was too late,” he said.
The future of Follow Di Arrow hangs in the balance according to Ennis. However, he’ll look to reflect on past events and remains hopeful that the show will return in 2013.
“I’m just doing some reflection. I want the good people that have supported Follow Di Arrow over the years that I have always done my best as a promoter; always delivered and to see what happened last year put a damp on the promotion,” Ennis said.
“Hopefully, we might see Follow Di Arrow again next year.”
The show has taken place ever since 2000 in Oracabessa, St. Mary.
