Ongoing debate over the Marley’s dominance at The Grammys

There has been a debate ever since Ziggy Marley’s self-titled Album “Ziggy Marley” won in the Best Reggae Award category at the 2017 Grammy Awards. It was his 7th Grammy award in this category and the album was not in the top ten on the popular charts.

A four member band from Orange County, California, “Common Kings”  has a number one song “Lost in Paradise” on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart. This album was released in February by Island Empire Records. This is the album that pushed Landon McNamara’s “A Dollar Short &A Minute Late ” out of the top spot.
“Falling into Place” the Grammy nominated album is still at number 2 and “Set in Stone” by Stick Figure is still at number 3. J Boog is at number 5 with “Wash House Ting” and “Rebelution’s Live at Red Rocks” is at number 6. The number 7 seven spot is held by “My Soul” by Samu. “The Legend Live” by Bob Marley and The Wailers falls to the 8th position, while the 9th position is held by Jemere Morgan’s “Transition”.
Steven Marley has managed to be back in the top 10 even though he is at number 10 with “Revelation Part ll, The Fruit of Life”

People have started to say it makes no sense to have any hope of winning a Grammy in the Best Reggae Album category once Ziggy Marley is nominated, as he has been winning most of the time for such a long time. There has been just a few years when he has not won. This year Devin de Dakta &JL  was nominated for the album “Reggae for Her” , J Boog for “Rose Petals” , Raging Fyah with “Everlasting”, Rebelution with “Falling into Place” and Soja with “Soja: Live in Virginia”

We can only hope the artistes will continue putting out good music even when they don’t have the name Marley and the might start winning just as much as Ziggy one day. We also continue to congratulate Ziggy Marley, Steven Marley and Junior Gong Marley as they walk in their father’s footsteps.
