Dancehall is still coming to grips with the murder of popular producer Patrick “Roach” Samuels. Roach, who is Vybz Kartel’s former road manager, was gunned down earlySunday morning while leaving a party on Mannings Hill Road in Kingston. According to police report the producer was ambushed by a group of armed thugs who rain bullets on his Chevy Avalanche.
As we reflect on the legacy Roach left behind, let’s look at five major hit songs many dancehall fans didn’t know he produced.
Sean Paul’s mega hit single “Breakout” was released in 2005 on the Siren Riddim produced by Patrick “Roach” Samuels. The single was featured on Sean Paul’s multi-platinum third album The Trinity.
“Emergency” is one of Vybz Kartel’s biggest singles to date and that too was released on the Siren Riddim produced by Patrick Roach. The single garnered a lot of praise in 2005 as Vybz Kartel tackled politicians on the hard hitting track.
The Overproof Riddim, produced by Patrick Roach and Justus Arison is one of the biggest dancehall beats in recent years. The Riddim spawn hits like Mavado’s “Settle Down” in 2011. The music video for “Settle Down” rocked up over 3 million views on YouTube.
Khago’s “Tun Up Di Ting” was also another big hit off the Overproof Riddim. The single was one of the biggest tracks in 2011.
Konshens “Bad Gal” was another huge hit off Roach’s Overproof Riddim. The music video for the single rocked up over 2 million views on YouTube.
Another Overproof Riddim smash hit was Beenie Man’s summer single “Lets Go.”
Hitmaker Demarco also scored big on the Overproof Riddim, produced by Patrick Roach with “Nuff Gal.”
Soca star Shurwayne Winchester also scored by on the Overproof Riddim with “Wine” released in 2011.
Patrick Roach Samuels also scored big with the Overtime Riddim, which was also co-produced by his business partner Justus Arison. The dancehall beat spawn hits such as Mavado’s “Caribbean Girls.” The video rocked up more than 4 million views on YouTube.
One of the latest hit singles Patrick Roach produced is Mavado’s first collaboration with Nicki Minaj “Give It All To Me.”
