Some Coins To Be Withdrawn From Circulation In Jamaica

Cabinet has approved a proposal from the Bank of Jamaica to discontinue the circulation of some coins.

Minister of Education, Youth and Information Senator Ruel Reid said the move is pursuant to subsections 16 (1) and 16 (3) of the Bank of Jamaica Act.

While speaking at a media briefing at Jamaica House, Reid said the coins to be discontinued are the one cent, ten cent and 25 cent coins.

According to the Minister, only one dollar, five dollar, ten dollar and twenty dollar coins will remain in circulation.
