Tessanne Chin may already be considered a front-runner on The Voice, but the reggae singer remains as humble as ever. Following the decidedly positive reaction to her debut performance, Tessanne took to Twitter to thanks her fans…not to mention Shaggy, her number one mentor. She might be a contestant on The Voice, but Tessanne Chin is by no means a newbie in the music industry. She’s toured extensively with popular reggae singer Jimmy Cliff and even recorded a track with the legendary Mr. Boombastic (otherwise known as Shaggy). And now that she’s receiving attention in her own right, the singer is determined to recognize those who made it all possible.
Thrilled by all the fan support, Tessanne took to Twitter to thank one of her earliest supporters. She sent Shaggy the following message: “Thank you for believing in me. Feels like only yesterday you came to me with the suggestion.” Included in the post was a picture of the two musicians hanging out and, by the looks of it, getting along fabulously.
Yes, Shaggy was the force behind Tessanne’s meteoric rise on The Voice. A few weeks ago, when she first announced her decision to audition, the singer confessed, “Shaggy suggested it, and I have to give him props for that. He thought it was a really good way to showcase my talent to a much wider audience.”
A few critics allege that Tessanne’s experience gives her an unfair advantage over fresh-faced competitors, but let’s face it: she’s not the first (nor will she be the last) contestant with an established performance history.
And if those years of experience are directly responsible for her amazing vocal talent, then, hey, we’re not about to complain!
