The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’ Sets New Streaming Record

The Weekend’s new album “Starboy” that made its debut on Black Friday following much publicity from the Canadian singer and his team has set a new single day streaming record for Spotify.

Justin Bieber was the last artist to hold the record for the most stream in 24 hours on the music streaming platform. His album “Purpose” topped 36 million streams in the first day when it was released on November 13, 2015.

Starboy” features guest appearances from the likes of Future, Kendrick Lamar, and Daft Punk. The lead singles “False Alarm” and “Starboy” are performing very well on Billboard Hot 100 chart.

This past May, Drake became Spotify’s most streamed artist of all time, also replacing Bieber in the top spot. In October, his “One Dance” became the service’s most streamed song ever, accruing over 880 million streams when it took the record from Major Lazer, DJ Snake, and MØ’s “Lean On.” As reported by Pitchfork.

In the meantime The Weeknd is getting ready to hit the road for his “Legend of the Fall” tour in support of the album. The tour kicks off in Europe in February before hitting North America in April and again in Europe over the summer.
