The 19 year old Belgium-based Jamaican striker Leon Bailey continues his rise as one of the world’s top youngsters after being named on the 40-man shortlist for UEFA’s prestigious Golden Boy Award.
He scored seven goals and added 11 assists for the club last season, they made it to a fourth place finish in the league and they also got a spot in the Europa League Competition. He was also able to score six goals and serve up four assists in his seven goals across all competitions for Genk throughout the season. And in his last outing he scored in the 25th minute and that is how he helped his Belgian team to win the match over their Italian opponents Sassuolo on Thursday. During that game the teenager was able to rack up a 90% pass accuracy, he had five shots on target, three interceptions and five crosses. Bailey is really talented, this is why he has been nominated so many times and his reputation has been growing very fast.
Genk (The Belgian First Division side) was able to move to the top of group ‘f’ on goal difference, when all three teams tied on three points. The Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, Chelsea and former German champions, Borussia Dortmund has been targeting the player recently.
Bailey has now joined the household names such as Inter Milan’s star Gabriel Barbosa (Gabigol) Manchester City’s Leroy Sane, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford ,Tottenham’s Dele Alli, Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and Renato Sanches, Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi and Napoli’s Amadou Diawara. And now that he has caught the eyes of Europe’s top clubs, he is expected to continue to do well.
