Bolt may not be competing after retiring from competition following the world championships in August, but his mere presence in the city during the Games is a coup for organisers.
Usain Bolt is known to draw a massive audience wherever he goes and will ensure the eyes of the world are on the Coast during the Games from April 4-15 next year.
Negotiations with the eight-time Olympic gold medallist and his representatives have been going on for months.
Organising Committee Chairman Peter Beattie could not confirm Bolt’s visit but said organisers would be delighted if he was present. Beattie revealed that CEO Mark Peters has been involved in discussions over a period of time but announcements have to be made and that will be done at the appropriate time.
Peters in his response says discussions are continuing with Bolts management around an involvement with the Games.
