“When we installed Herb McKenley’s statue, we had decided where we would put Usain Bolt because we had every confidence that he would be a legend, that he was going to be really special and so the way Herb McKenley’s statue is positioned and where Usain’s statue will be positioned as you enter the Stadium those are the two statues you will see,” Olivia Grange, told The Star a few days ago.
The maquette which was sculpted by Jamaican Basil Watson, is in Jamaica and has been given the thumbs-up by Bolt, his coach Glen Mills, as well as manager Nugent Walker.
“They love it. The statue – with some adjustments from the maquette made, and the actual statue, which is six feet…life size is ready to be shipped to Jamaica,” she adds.
The planned unveiling is set for August, however, no date had yet been decided.
Bolt is set to retire after his final World Championships in London this August.
