Also The Norman Manley Law School has reportedly recommended that its students no longer attend the Vybz Kartel murder trial following an incident in which one of them acted inappropriately. Our sources say a few weeks ago, a student handed a sweet to the dancehall artiste while court was in session. This afternoon, law school principal, Carol Aina told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that there has been reason to have had discussion with students about the trial. However, she would not say why. “I would not want to get into it with the media,” Aina said. Asked whether the law school has recommended that students no longer attend the trial, Aina also declined to comment. It is understood that a policeman observed the law student giving the sweet to Kartel and reported the matter to the judge. Justice Lennox Campbell then issued a directive that the Registrar of the Supreme Court write to the Norman Manely Law School as well as the Law Faculty of the University of Technology urging that their students observe certain ethics. Prosecutors have disclosed that a compact disc or CD containing telephone records cannot be located. The revelation of the missing CD came during cross examination of telecommunications expert Joseph Simmonds, who is Group Business Risk Director at telecommunications company Digicel. Simmonds testified that he received a request from the police for subscriber information in relation to 40 telephone numbers. He said he prepared a statement along with two computer CDs containing the data extracted from Digicel’s system. He said the materials were provided to the police. One of the CDs was tendered into evidence today. While cross-examining Simmonds defense attorney Tom Tavares-Finson asked the judge for permission for lead prosecutor, Jeremy Taylor, to show him the other CD. Taylor said he did not have the CD as it was missing. It was revealed in court that one of the CDs was for general use while the other was to be kept private as it contained critical data which would be used to make comparisons. Tavares-Finson then suggested that since one of the CDs is missing, the court would be unable to verify the contents on the disc which was tendered into evidence. Simmonds said he was made aware that the CD was missing and said he was surprised that the disk was lost.
