West Indies Lost tri-series final by 58 runs to Australia

Australia beat West Indies in the tri-series final by 58 runs. After putting a par total of 270, Australia bowlers capped of a clinical display against the hosts. Matthew Wade’s knock of 57 lifted Aussies and provided them with a decent total to defend. Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh struck in the bowling department to bag the win.

Smith: ‘Very satisfying, we scrapped really hard, were in trouble at one point. Matthew Wade and the tail lifted us to 270, which was very competitive. The bowlers then put their hands up to win the game for us. It’s pleasing to win tournaments, but we haven’t played our best cricket, need to work hard and get back to our best. Langer has done a terrific job with Western Australia (WA) and it’s good to have a different voice in the dressing room. It was great over here in the West Indies and we look forward to return in the near future.’

Hazlewood: ‘We have got our own role in this team. I think we are working well as a group. We knew the pitch would go slower, Zampa bowled beautifully as well, got us the big wicket of Pollard. I keep it pretty simple, keep it to basics. Very happy with my five wicket haul.’

Holder: ‘I think we conceded 20-30 runs too many, we didn’t end well, we lost Gabriel as well, that was crucial. Got a pretty good start, but lost our way in the middle. Shannon bowled really well, he brought us back into the contest. Credit to the entire group, their efforts brought us this far, we just need to build on it in the future. I think the batsmen need to build on their starts, we got two hundreds in this series – which was pretty good. Getting Pollard back into the team was a huge plus. We have got 2-3 weeks to rest and recover ahead of the Tests against India.’

Marsh: ‘Every series playing for Australia is to be cherished, happy that we won in the end. I batted high up the order in the last couple of games, my role with the ball is pretty much defined. The cross-seam ball was tough to face and it came well for us today. West Indies played some good cricket, they had a great series.’
