Yardhype features Jamaican/American Dancehall Star Latrar Scott. Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, Scott is Dancehall recording artiste, singer and songwriter.
She has been doing music since the age of Fifteen (15), however, gained major recognition in 2011 at the Magnums Kings And Queens of Dancehall competition. Her style of music is hardcore dancehall though she still appreciates all types of music including reggae, hip-hop and R&B. Scott is also a versatile singjay-style vocalist with a gruff, gravelly tone, capable of both rapid-fire chatting, powerful, melodic singing.”
Perhaps surprisingly, reggae singer Tarrus Riley is one of her favourite Jamaican artistes. The quality she admires most about him is the fact that he sings with a lot of emotion an attribute that is uncommon amongst many of her male counterparts…’hardcore girl looking for a smooth romance.’
Scott is currently working on rebranding herself and putting out new materials to re-engage her fans. The love and affection Latrar Scott aka “Zoey” receives from fans play an integral part in boosting her motivation, which keeps her focus and keeps her going. What she loves most about Jamaica are the people and the culture; the food, parties and all the festivities. Latrar Scot says “The lyrics I portray in my music are an embodiment of my life experiences and also the lifestyle of the Jamaican people”.
Over the last 5-10 years, the world has witnessed a dancehall explosion, a lot have changed however Latrar is fully conscious of this because she watched carefully, collecting her lyrical ammunition along the way. After honing her vocal skills in the studio Latrar Scott decides that the timing is right to treat her fans to what they have been long anticipating.
The St. Andrew born recording artiste also draws inspiration from international superstar Rihanna, as she aims to have a similar level of achievement in the music industry as her fellow Caribbean queen. Latrar Scott’s favourite quote is “Independence is Happiness” by Susan B. Anthony, the American women’s rights activist as she also aspires to empower women around the world. For fun Latrar enjoys watching Nollywood movies, hanging out with close friends and families or reading inspirational novels.
In addition to her music, Latrar Scott gives voluntary services to her community helping out with the elderly and also coaching young people to grow and develop their skills. Latrar dreams of one day being a philanthropist and having her own charity foundation where she can help youths in need to realize a better future.
