”When the War start its Down to the Wire.. In the face of evil Real Soldiers we don’t surrender” – Koen Duncan
Koen Dwayne Duncan – singer, songwriter, musician, producer, also known as Veteran (as called by many of his family and friends), was born on 15th June 1983. He is the 1st of two children born to his parents Christine & Norris Duncan and married to wife, Crystal Duncan.
First impressions… small in stature with an innocent smile (once you can get it out of him), don’t be fooled. Koen Duncan is anything but a walk over. His mission is to bring about change, transformation and to defeat the kingdom of darkness by sharing the Word of God, the Gospel, with his weapon – music. He does not assume a passive approach to ministry like so many other ministers of the day but rather takes the offensive in the battle to which he has committed himself. Tracks like “Bring Down” “Whole Armour” “Shine High” “War Veteran” “Death to the Flesh” “Pick ah Side” and “Mountain Mover” are direct attacks on the kingdom of the enemy. The message is expressed with a boldness that characterizes his overall style and intricate combination of the Word and Reggae / Dancehall music, his major influences.
From the young, award winning saxophonist at Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive, Koen went on to become the youngest member of the widely renowned gospel group, Broadway Boys International before launching his solo career. Koen released his (1st) first solo album “Bring Down” in 2005 which won four (4) awards in the Urban Gospel Alliance Awards held in Texas in 2006.
In May 2009, he launched his (2nd) second solo album “Shine High”. Later on that year, Koen celebrated 10 years of ministry. The following year, 2010, Koen won the award DJ Vocal Performance of the Year – Solo for the song Mountain Mover (off of the Shine High Album) in the Marlin Awards in Bahamas. During that year he also went up for an audition at Trinidad and Tobago Entertainment Company and he was one of twelve persons chosen to represent the country. Starting 2011 off with a bang, Koen’s pre-release album “The Trinity” was launched. That same year he also received nomination(s) in the Trinidad and Tobago Gospel Awards.
Koen strives to improve on what he brings to the table every single time. Frequently chided by his late father for being “too ambitious sometimes” he continues to push the envelope in every facet of his career. Even in the face of this loss, Koen has persevered; having continued his pro-bono work with local and regional promoters to raise funds for worthy causes and ministering at the nation’s high schools. Koen is also a Music Producer in his own right. He has opened and started his own recording studio by the name of M.T.A (More Than Audio) Studios and in 2014 he launch his record label Transic Music, through which he is gaining recognition for his work with local and foreign ministers.
Koen Duncan has one thing to offer – the naked Truth about the love and hope that comes from knowing Jesus Christ and this he shares with everyone who meets him with a smile and microphone in hand. Koen is a young man, who can walk with his head held high with such a track record, but this young man has no room in his heart for pride, he gives all Glory to his heavenly Father, God Almighty.
