PNP may win more seats after ballots are recounted

The overall seat count at this stage according to the EOJ shows the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) with 32 and the People’s National Party (PNP) with 31. This has not changed during Sunday’s counting which ís continuing in the remaining constituencies.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is calling on all Jamaicans, including supporters of both the People’s National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), to remain calm in light of the prolonged recounting of ballots taking place in some constituencies.

The final count of votes in the St Thomas Western constituency was halted earlier today by officials of the Electoral Office of Jamaica. The count was then moved from the constituency to the headquarters of the EOJ in Kingston.

General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party, Dr Horace Chang is raising concerns about widespread rumours regarding a change in the election results. Dr Chang stated that there had been no change to the fact that the Jamaica Labour Party has won the popular vote and retains the majority of Parliamentary seats.
