He will be facing off against Mike WiLL’s EarDrummers, WondaGurl’s Enjoy Life, and Tinie Tempah’s Disturbing London teams.
Though dominating the dancehall scene for a number of years Popcaan has never set foot on US soil because of his affiliation with now incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel.
According to a recent article by the Star, Popcaan received a one-entry visa to the United States to participate in the Red Bull Clash.
Nonetheless, dancehall insiders believe that this is good for dancehall and Popcaan himself as it can open more doors so long as he obliged by the terms of the work permit.
In an interview with the Star Julian Griffiths, manager of diamond-selling artiste Charly Black says, “Popcaan has been one of the most in demand Jamaican acts in the US for years. Not only will it (the visa) be good for him, but it will be good for dancehall overall. His presence in the US market will uplift the whole genre.”
“I think it’s a great opportunity, and I hope he exploits it well. Once he sticks to the terms and conditions he was granted with this experience, it should open additional doors for him and others in the industry,” said Popular entertainment publicist, Keona Williams.
