Karry Ann Scorpian is a New York based Jamaican artist, but still a true Caribbean girl at heart, who knows just how special it is to be an island girl. ” Island Girl“ is the title of the new EP recorded by Karry Ann Scorpian. To achieve this global recognition and make sure to be crown by a musical success, Karry Ann Scorpian unveils through her debut EP that she can deliver the right sound at the right time and grab the attention of her audience.
Early May, the Jamaica Gleaner named Karry Ann among the potentional artists : « Possessing a beautiful look and a lovely voice, Brooklyn, New York-based artiste Karry-Ann Scorpian refers to herself as one of Jamaica’s best artistes. Time will tell whether that is true or not, but listening to her, one is inclined to believe that she definitely has what it takes to reach a pinnacle, not just locally but internationally ».
Born in St. Catherine Jamaica W.I. raised in Pembroke Hall, St. Andrew. Karry-Ann Scorpian started writing music in 2009 and recording in 2010. The first EP album from the Jamaican female artist is about to be unveilled, scheduled to be released officially on June 1rst 2015. It is titled “Island Girl ” and produced by YGF records, the fast-rising label owned by producer Tevin Richards in St Ann.
Karry Ann’s debut EP incorporates musical elements of different kind of music ranging from Soca, Pop, R&B and Dancehall. About this new Y.G.F recording project, Tevin Richards told Abana Magazine : « This Ep is beautiful, it’s like tutti fruity, a lot of flavors and taste. It appeals to both local and international audiences ».
The track listing is composed of 5 songs recorded on various riddim produced by YGF Records between 2014 and 2015. The titles of the songs are « Repping For Mom », « Break Loose », « Circles », « Leaf Of Life » and « Island Girl ».
For the song « Island Girl » one of the titles also used to refer to the EP, Karry Ann Scorpian teamed up with recording star Zagga, who topped local charts with his hit « My Destination » in 2013. Tevin Richards confirmed the track “Island Girl” as the first single introducing her EP for media promotion.
The song ” Break Loose” comes off the Club Banger riddim already on radio rotation since his release in May 2015.
The song titled “Repping For Mom” is another track coming out of the EP album. It is a beautiful song recorded on the Tomorrow People Riddim featuring as well Zamunda & Little Hero, Negus, Jahvillani, Nanna Eq.
Fans might be surprised also to learn about the story behind the release of this album.
“This Ep came about when Karry Ann Scorpian came to my studio to record some jingles around in Easter time in April. After she had recorded her jingles, we sat and talk for a while. I started playing some riddims, so I played about 6 and she love them all. So I told her why not we work on an Ep.” Tevin Richards told Abana Magazine “She took the riddims with her to New York, wrote to them, called me a week later and said she is ready. Flew back to Jamaica and we started to work.”
